MTC Member Profile: Anne Marisic

This spring, the Maine Trails Coalition (MTC) warmly welcomed Anne Marisic, of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, to our volunteer-led coalition. Anne eagerly stepped into the roles that were left upon the departure of Angela King from the BCM and MTC. Angela was an important voice on the MTC Leadership Team, and an equally important partner for MTC’s Trail-until-Rail Work Group, helping steer MTC advocacy efforts supporting connected off-road trail corridors, and the creation of the Maine Rail Trail Plan and Active Transportation Arterials Vision.

Anne has been an amazing addition to the Maine Trails Coalition! We are delighted to share with you a little more about why trails and MTC are important to her.

Preferred Name and pronouns: Anne (she/her)
Organization/Affiliation: Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM), Partnerships and Communications Manager
MTC Roles: Leadership Committee; Trail-until-Rail Work Group; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Work Group

What trail project are you currently working on or most involved with? The BCM is very involved in helping to develop unused rail corridors for interim trail use throughout the state. This year it was exciting to see the momentum behind both the Mountain Division trail and Merrymeeting trail in terms of developing them for recreation and active transportation uses.

Favorite trail activities? Avid hiker, snowshoer, and kayaker who enjoys Maine’s woods & water trails year round.

Favorite trail or trail memory in Maine? I have so many great memories of trails in Maine, but I love looking back at pictures from visiting here as a kid, and thinking of the role that my mom and dad played in instilling a love of the outdoors in my sister and I.

Why do you Love Maine Trails? There are never-ending opportunities to explore new spots throughout the state, so each time is a new adventure. There is so much to see, though despite my best efforts, I have yet to see a moose.

Why are you involved with the Maine Trails Coalition? I’m excited to join the Maine Trails Coalition Leadership Team as a representative of BCM. With an ever-growing to-do list of trails throughout the state, I look forward to supporting the work of MTC to ensure that more people can experience and enjoy the outdoors here in Maine.

Best tip for trail users or volunteers? Look for the trails that aren’t the highest rated on all the apps or travel sites, you never know what gems you might find.
