MTC Member Spotlight: Jenny Ward

Woman stands on an exposed rock above a pond and a lake surrounded by mountains during fall foliage of oranges, reds, yellow and greens. Blue sky with clouds.

This month we wanted to highlight someone that also has been with Maine Trails Coalition (MTC) from the beginning when we first hosted statewide meetings on trails, which resulted in the formation of MTC. The Coalition is lucky to have Jenny Ward as a member of our Leadership Team and Stewardship and Communications Work Group. Jenny has a depth of experience with trails and their importance to Maine, and especially how meaningful they are to her region. We hope you enjoy learning a bit more about Jenny below! Thank you Jenny for all you do for MTC!

Name:
Jenny Ward (she/her)
Where you live: Moosehead Lake Region
Organization/Affiliation: Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)

Why do you Love Maine Trails? Trails allow me to explore places and explore myself in those places.

What trail project are you currently working on or most involved with? My recent professional work has my attention on gravel bike trails. Riding on gravel roads allows riders to explore diverse terrains and scenic landscapes. Their versatility makes them accessible to a wide range of abilities. Additionally, the sense of adventure and exploration appeals to those seeking a unique and immersive outdoor experience.

Favorite trail activities? Hiking or Biking

Favorite trail or trail memory in Maine? Any mountain top is an automatic contender but for me it’s the repetition of hiking my favorite trails early in the morning and the enjoyment, peace and energy it provides that stays with me the longest!

Best tip for trail users or volunteers or other closing thoughts?
Trail stewardship isn’t hard! Being outside with other trail lovers, doing needed work is a lot of fun and makes you feel good. And plan food for afterwards-food tastes better after a full day outdoors loving trails!

Finish the sentence, I never hit the trails without …
I never hit the trails without an extra pair of socks. You never know when your feet might demand an impromptu sock change- your feet are your “wheels”!
