Speak up for the Mountain Division Trail!
The first opportunity to speak up for a trail-until-rail project being considered as part of Maine’s new “Rail Corridor Use Advisory Council” process is happening this Thursday, March 31, at 6pm.
The Mountain Division Trail would connect Portland to the New Hampshire border, linking nine communities in an incredible multi-use trail. This process is for the 30 miles that would connect Standish to Fryeburg.
The Maine Trails Coalition supports a “trail until rail” approach to this project, and will be sharing that perspective at the virtual public meeting this Thursday at 6pm. If you can make it as well, here are some key points to consider sharing in your comments:
A vast majority of Mainers — 86% — support repurposing unused rail corridors as trails. This support hold true regardless of age, geography, or political party.
Trails connect communities and bring a wide range of health, economic, and environmental benefits.
If you live locally, you can focus on how you would use this trail and what it would mean to your community.
If you don’t live locally, aim to keep your remarks to one minute and share some of the benefits you believe this project will bring.
Sign up to attend on Thursday!
If you are unable to attend, you may also submit your comments to the Maine Department of Transportation directly via this webpage.
Thank you so much for speaking up for trails! We hope to see you virtually on Thursday at 6pm.
